It's a Pintle combo 2" ball hitch. Not that I have a trailer that requires
the Pintle type hitch, it is a great addition for trailing. I can still
use the factory installed trailer hitch / receiver, but I don't always
carry around with me the hitch part for the receiver. The receiver hitch
ball is lowered to keep most trailers level, and as a result it hangs down
and can get in the way when not in use. So with the Pintle hitch,
as you can see does not hang below the bumper.
When using a tower strip, I normally use the receiver to hook the tow
strip to using the pin thought the loop inside the receiver. And the Pintle
hitch only just cleared, allowing us of the receiver ball hitch.
Pintle hitches that I have found run about $70, and I got my from J.
C. Whitney. They are not too common at most automotive type places. They
are rated up to @ 16,000 lbs. trailer weight, and with the 2" ball tow
weight is 7,000 lbs.
