Wiring Of the Military Lights
Rear Lights
-
To remove the buckets, mark the center of the rivets using a center
punch, this will help guide the drill bit when starting to drill in the
the river and prevent you from slipping.
-
Drill off the heads with a 3/8 inch drill bit. You may need to hold the
rear of the rivet if it begins to spin.
-
The military connector will not be compatible with the vehicle harness
so you will need to cut it off. Before you cut the connectors mark the
wires with something so you will know what they are. The connector
pins are marked as followed:
-
(A) Ground wire
-
(B) Black Out Brake.
-
(C) Black Out Tail.
-
(D) Turn/brake.
-
(E) is the parking light.
-
Cut the connectors off the old tail light leaving a couple of inches of
pigtail. The old light has a two pin plug with a brown wire (Parking light)
and a white wire (backup light).
-
Mount the new bucket in to place using either new aluminum 3/16 rivets
or #10-32 stainless hardware.
-
Using 2 3/8 x 3/4 Inch stainless or brass bolts to secure the
light housing to the bucket.
-
Splice the wires as followed:
-
Red to (D) - Your brake/turn signal.
-
Brown to (E) - Your parking lights.
-
White to (B) or to some other reverse light(s). & backup horn if you
wish.
Your will have 3 or more black ground wires that where attached to
the old tail lamp stud, you will need use a nut and bolt and wire
them together along with the (A) wire from your new tail light.
-
Replace the stock bulbs with the following:
-
1156 for the brake bulb.
-
67 for the tail light bulb
-
67 or 98's for the two blackout lamps.
-
You will need to add a reflector to either side of you tail lights to comply
with the law. I used reflective tape and it worked out great for me.
-
Front Lights
-
Replace the 24 volt bulbs with 12 volt bulbs.
-
Center bulb should be a #1156 bulb
-
Upper bulb should be a #67 bulb
-
To remove the front lights, you will need to remove the back cover of the
wiring access panel. 4 bolts will hold the cover in place.
-
Unplug the two connectors to your lamp, one should be red, and the other
brown.
-
To remove the lamp, you will find 2 bolts holding the mounting plate that
the lamp is mounted to. A ground wire is connected to one of the two bolts.
-
Install the new lamp, and make sure one of the two bolts has the ground
wire connected to it.
-
Connect the single tab wire (491) of the military lamp to the brown wire,
this should be your parking lamps. You should be able to turn on the parking
lights and to make sure the parking lamp is lit.
-
Connect the double tab wire (460/461) from the military lamp to the
red wire. This should be your turn signal lamp.
-
The third wire with 3 tabs (483/484/20) on it is the BlackOut lamp.
In most cases for civilian us, it will not be connected.
-
Test to make sure all is working
-
Place cover back on with the 4 bolts.
I am not sure if all military lamps will have the same numbers or making
on the wires like mine, so you may have to do a little testing on your
own.
The Hummer Mailing List also has some info on the Military lighting
and it's wiring at http://www.treefort.org/~bish/hid/electric/mml.html
Check it out, they have some good scans from a military manual.
