So to get around the problem I installed a 175 amp plug at the front of the Hummer and one at the end of a set of jumper cables. The connector is mounted right between the hood & the bumper and is very easy to get to as long as the hood is not opened.
One thing I did learn about the 175 amp plug is that different color plugs do not work, they will not plug into each other. The blue plug is for 1/0 cable and the gray is for 4 ga. cable. But they both take the pins for both 1/0 & 4 ga. cable. So I used 2 175 amp blue connectors and 2 pins for the 1/0 ga cable that goes back to my batteries, and 2 pins for the 4 ga. cable on the jumper cables. Works out great, and easy to connect to.
The connectors a and parts are from NAPA.
The first photo to the right was before I had my winch installed and the connector was not mounted at the time of the photo. The connector is mounted to one of the bumper mounts with two 2 1/2 X 1/4 inch bolts, and to spacers as stand-offs. There is also a rubber boot cover shown hanging to the side.

Connecting is real easy, but cannot be used with the hood open. This will be great for just starting others & myself. I also made a connector for the battery charger just in case. |
