It's a Bright Red, 1993, Serial #137451, 4-door Wagon, 6.2 liter Diesel.

It was my dream come true! Since 1985 or 1986,  it was the truck of my dreams, never really thought that I would ever get to own one. But on January of 96, it became real. Bought it from Auggie @ Hummer Of The Gulf Coast in Alvin Tx. who was a real help in making my dream come true. It took me about 3 months from the time I first got a real look at the Hummers and after renting one during my Christmas Holidays, I made up my mind that I really wanted one for keeps.

My Hummer has become part of my hobby for added and changing the stuff on it.  So I am always working on it. Here is a list of some of the stuff on it:

And always more to come....

Why a Hummer?  That's a common question.  Well the Hummer to me is one awsome 4x4 as it is, with out the need to add anything. It was designed for the off-roads and to be able to carry a load, infact as much as 2 tons just he way it is. It's something that not every one has, and I like that, why be like every one else?  It's a Hummer, it's differant and it gets lots of attention every where I go.  And if you don't like that attention, then the Hummer is not for you.

People are always telling I could have bought a Jeep or some other 4x4 a and fix it up to be an awsome 4x4 for less money.
Well, for me that is just not true.  For one, I bought the Hummer used, and that alone was a great savings over a new one. And they way I look at it, by the time a buy a new 4x4 Suburban, fix it up with new larger tires, give it a lift kit, add a roll cage, add ventalation for running in 24-30 of water. And even after all that, I still have a vehicle that has many weak points.  The stock CV Joints, the tie rods, the steering linkage, the U joints, the "A"frame, drive shaft and more are just not made for that larger tires.  33 inch tires for more are okay, but the bigger you make them, the more problems you will have with parts braking because they are not made for the type of stress of the larger tires.  You then have a vehicle with a high center of gravity and easy to roll over. And let not talk about the problems how the truck is going to handle at highways speeds and high speed cornering,  And after spending lots of money on a 4x4 will I have a vehicle as safe for the off-roading as the Hummer? Chances are, no.

Then they tell me that a Jeep can go places a Hummer cannot, and I will agree with them.  And I bet Hummer can go where Jeeps cannot go also, nor can they carry the load that a Hummer was designed to carry.  Don't get me wrong, Jeeps are great little vehicles, and where designed for a light load. I can take my Hummer where I know Jeep just could not handle the angle with out rolling. Jeep will not carry a heavy loads in to the wilderness like a Hummer can. Jeep are not as stable at high speeds either even more so when it comes to cornering at high speeds.  And when it comes to accidents, I will have a good chance of walking away from a wreck with a Hummer, much more so them any other vehicle on the streets.  Many times I hear where cars are damaged to the point where they cannot be driven after rear ending a Hummer,  while the Hummer has little or no damage to talk about.

Then you get the ones who say, "But it is so ugly, why would anyone want one?" Well each to his or her own.  I and think most like the looks because it is so unusall and after really seeing it, don't think it is so ugly.  But if we all had the same taste, this world would be boring.  I for one do not like to be in a car, the idea of having my but so low to the ground just does not appeal to me. And then you have the job of get in and out of such a low vehicle that I hate, but that's me.

The Hummer is not going to be the vehicle that every one wants, is not car, and it's not a truck, it's in a class of it's own.  Some may call it an SUV, and if it is, it's a big one at that.  Well, really it is rated as a class 3 trcuk per DOT.

The Hummer does not have the greatest accelleration, but I feel it is a lot better then most trucks, real trucks that is. And when you are trying to move over 7,000 lbs, you be it takes time to get to 60 mph, but I have seen some small cars take just as much time.  0-60 in 18 seconds is what the MFG rates it at, but it can do it better then that. For me, it fine, and I don't even have turbo or the 6.5l diesel engine like the newer ones have.

And while it is true, the Hummer are not all that fast on the highway, off-road I will have you beat.   My top spped for my Hummer is only 71 mph, because it was not designed for high speed. The US Gov't called for a vehicle that need to do 50 mph, and get some 300-350 miles per tank of fuel.  So, up until 94, most Hummer will top out at 70 mph.  The gearing on the Hummers causes the engine's RPM to get too high and the engines govenor holds the truck back.  Up to 93, all Hummers had a 3 speed automatic transmission, and then starting in 94, Hummer became more civilianized, and 4 speed automatic transmission was installed.  I have heard of owners taking the Hummers with turbo as high as 95 mph.  So the meet or exceed the the max speeds for most US roads.

BTW, since I only have a 3 speed tans

It's a shower of fun in a Hummer!
